Burton Albion climbed into the play off positions in the early season League Two table with a hard earned comeback victory over promoted York City. Lee Bell's deflected effort cancelled out Patrick McLaughlin's tenth minute opener. Calvin Zola's tap in following Robbie Weir's saved shot gave the Brewers the lead in the 65th minute before Matt Paterson's first goal at the Pirellie Stadium sealed the victory for the Brewers.

Gary Rowett made just one change to his starting eleven for the Wednesday evening visit of York City to the Pirelli Stadium. Jack Dyer replaced Cleveland Taylor from the team who run out 4-0 winners over Oxford United on Saturday. Billy Kee missed out all together after suffering with a bug during the week, Adi Yussuf took his place on the bench.

Maghoma almost started where he left on Saturday, stinging the palms of Michael Ingham after playing a neat one two with Damien McCrory inside the area in the 8th minute.

But it was York who took the lead in the 10th minute, Patrick MCLAUGHLIN capialising on poor defensive play by the Brewers to drive the ball across Tomlinson from close range. O'Connor looked to have the chance to clear but his hesitation allowed in the York man to slot home the first goal conceeded by Tomlinson since joining the Brewers.

Paterson had his first chance for Burton in the 16th minute, shrugging off a defender 30 yards from goal before advancing and shooting wide of Ingham's right hand post. McCrory was then on hand to block McLaughlin's shot at the other end after a freekick into the area dropped to the City goalscorer.

It had been a lively opening 20 minutes and Paterson had another chance to equalise soon after, this time Zola played the ball into his strike partner's path 15 yards from goal but his shot took a deflection wide. But Burton didn't hve to wait too long for an equaliser, Lee BELL'S deflected long range effort took a huge deflection off Carlisle leaving Ingham with little chance as the ball flew into the corner of the net.

Burton were forced into a change just after the hour mark, Marcus Holness went down off the ball and was replaced soon after by Nathan Stanton. Two minutes later and York then had to make a defensive change of their own, Clarke Carlisle hobbled off to be replaced by Chris Doig.

Ashley Chambers picked up a booking in the 41st minute after a foul on O'Connor and then kicking the ball away. McCrory's freekick into the area was dangerous but York defended well to clear the ball.

O'Connor then made a great challenge on Chambers in his own penalty area to deny York taking a lead before the break. Paterson then set up Dyer in the first minute of added time but his shot from 18 yards was tame and straight at Ingham.

Half time: Burton Albion 1-1 York City

There were no changes at the break for either side and it was York who pushed forwards first, Oyebanjo curling a cross into the area which Tomlinson claimed. Burton were soon on the front foot though and Zola almost played in Paterson, Ingham was off his line quickly to snuff out the danger.

Jason Walker tried a chipped effort from the edge of the area in the 55th minute Tomlinson saw float safely over the crossbar.

Burton were seeing far more of the ball in the second half and got their rewards in the 65th minute. Maghoma found room down the left before crossing to Weir on the edge of the area, his shot was saved by Ingham but ZOLA was on hand to tap in the loose ball to give Burton the lead.

Gary Mills made his final two changes in the 71st minute, Matty Blair and Michael Potts replaced Patrick McLaughlin and Jonathan Smith.

Zola could have extended Burton's lead in the 75th minute, O'Connor burst down the right and sent over a perfect cross for the Congolese striker to head powerfully on goal, Ingham producing a superb reaction stop to keep him out. Justin Richards, not on the field of play, was then booked on the sidelines for unsporting behaviour.

Good work from Bell found Dyer on the edge of the area in the 80th minute, his shot on the turn went wide of the left hand post. Zola then found Maghoma in the area in the 89th minute but he put his shot well over the bar.

Matt PATERSON made the points safe for Burton in the first minute of injury time, lobbing the ball over the helpless Ingham after chasing down a long ball forward.
